Our Journey

June 11th, 2025 - Tract made presentation with only one third-party supporting document (NCDOT). Reps stated that they were the experts. Board of Commissioners asked questions. Board stated that they were uneasy making a decision without knowing the ultimate end user and plans. Asked Tract for additional information. Rezoning meeting delayed. See our Facebook page for more details about this meeting or click HERE for work session video.

May 5th, 2025 - Mooresville Board of Commissioners Agenda Item 8c to set the public meeting for the data center. Several residents spoke up requesting a delay, stating concerns, and asking the board to make data-based, fact-based, decisions on this irreversable decision that will devastate our area. The board acknowledged concerns, acknowledged that the developer has yet to answer questions, and agreed to visit one or two data centers so that they can have intelligent conversation. Mayor Carney stated that he is in favor of holding an open public work session with Tract and residents.

April 22nd, 2025 - Mooresville Planning Board, in a 4-3 vote, recommended a rezoning from residential agricultural to flex industrial for the data center (aka Mooresville Technology Park). Board member Michael Cole voted for the rezoning to flex industrial, despite stating that the project is not consistent with One Mooresville. Shaun Hooper voted against the project citing One Mooresville with the area being zone for "low density."

December 17th, 2024 - Local residents ask Iredell County Board for a procedural request and help in intervening with the Town of Mooresville. Our Iredell County Board of Commissioners granted 20/70 land rights in our Coddle Creek watershed to the Town of Mooresville for this data center site without notification, communication, or discuss back in August, 2024. The Town of Mooresville is requesting that this land be annexed from Iredell County, and is in very close proximity to Cabarrus County, Rowan County and Mecklenburg County. The proposed data center site is currently covered by Iredell County's 2045 Hoizon Plan, as residential agricultural and rural, Tier 2 Conservation land as it is on a watershed. Horizon 2045 specifically recognizes our area, the south east Iredell area, and states that the intent of these lands is that they will remain rural in character and provide rural residential housing options. We are restricted to one dwelling per acre. The granting of 20/70 land rights results in allowing 70% development per acre and consideation for rezoning to industrial. The procedural request from residents was for Iredell County to provide public notice and detailed information in all annexation and watershed building rights requests prior to granting these rights. The residents further asked that these high stakes decisions be made based on details and facts. The County responded that the project came to them as an economic development project that was not site specific with a, "pie in the sky" chance of getting the project.

October 21, 2024 - Mooresville Planning Board recommended to reject the data center (aka Mooresville Technology Park) rezoning due to lack of details and citing One Mooresville community made plans.

August 20, 2024 - Unbeknownst to Iredell County and Town of Mooresville residents, the Town of Mooresville requested that land be annexed into the Town of Mooresville and land rights be given to this parcel for a data center. Iredell County board members state that a non-disclosure agreement has been signed so they do not know the particulars. There was no conversation regarding informing residents, approved for one year.
